Kenya tells TikTok to comply with privacy and verification regulations

Noting the platform’s abuse for propaganda, fraud, and pornographic content, Kenya’s Minister of Home Affairs, Kithure Kindiki, has urged TikTok to abide by local user privacy and verification regulations.

The demand on social media companies to shield users from offensive content is comparable to what is happening globally.

The government has contacted TikTok through the Office of Data Protection Commissioner, prompting the parliamentary committee to voice concerns about the company’s data processing practices.

TikTok, a Chinese firm controlled by ByteDance, has steadfastly defended its user privacy records in the face of silence.

According to Kindiki, criminals have exploited the site to recruit phony employment, perform fraudulent foreign exchange, steal popular accounts, and distribute malicious propaganda.

These actions have caused dissatisfaction among users, exposed minors to improper content, and sparked arguments among citizens.

TikTok was penalized three units ten million euros by Italy’s competition regulatory commission for failing to adequately screen content for young or vulnerable users. According to a draft law, the company may also face a US ban unless its Chinese owners sell it within six months
